Climate Bicycle Ride in Delhi on Dec 6 (Sun)

A Climate Bicycle Ride (11-kms) will be organised in Delhi on Sunday, December 06, 2009 by Delhi Cycling Club in association with Delhi Integrated Mass Transit System (DIMTS) NMT Cell and supported by The Open Planning Project (TOPP).

All are being cordially invited to participate in the event along with their family, friends and colleagues.

It would be attended by people from various walks of life, age group and professions. Key objectives of the climate ride are to:
1) raise awareness about climate change;
2) promote cycling, walking and public transport; and
3) experience joy of cycling on dedicated bicycle tracks of BRT corridor and have fun.

ROUTE:
The 11-km ride will start from Ambedkar Nagar T-Point at 9.00 AM and pass through Pushpa Vihar, Chirag Delhi, Moolchand and culminate at Ambedkar Nagar Bus Terminal at 10.30 AM.

REGISTRATION:
There is no registration charge and the event is open to all. 15TH NOV 09
SUNDAY

Meeting Point - MOOLCHAND @ 6:40 AM ride starts (car parking available)
2nd meeting point - OBEROI Hotel @ 7:00 AM

After this we can coordinate on phone. We go straight from Oberoi towards Pragati Maidan.

Route
moolchand- oberoi hotel- pragati maidan- straight on the road. major redlight comes then take right and go towards daryaganj......the straight on road on left side comes jama masjid and going ahead red fort comes.

We'll explore this area and try to get as close as posible and take few pics and back. We'll have breakfast at famous natraj cafe and paranthe wali gali......

its a fun ride. we'll be riding at a moderate speed of 18-22 kms/hr

TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS
1. ride on extreme left while going to red fort
2. carry good amount of water as ride is long
3. carry any energy supplement if u want to ( biscuits,electrol, cakes,energy
bars or drinks) whatever u feel like
4. check your tyre pressure before ride.
5. examine your bike a day before the ride and see if everything is in order
6. approach venue sharp on time mentioned above as ride will start on as on time stated
7. be cautious follow traffic rules, be alert and everything will be fine
8. bikes on rent are NOT available. bring your own bike.
9. bring puncture kit and pump if u want (purely optional for rider)
10. wear a helmet (purely optional) though its recommended for safety
11. wear light coloured clothes for safety and visibility or as rider feels comfortable
12. show up on ride, be on your saddle and roll up your tyres for fun....

FIRST MEETING POINT - MOOLCHAND HOSPITAL (infront of emergency gate)

MEETING TIME: 5:45 AM (SHARP). RIDE WILL COMMENCE AT 5:55 AM


2ND MEETING PLACE - BEFORE ASHRAM REDLIGHT ( starting of ashram
flyover)

MEETING TIME- 6:10 AM ( we'll start from here at 6:15 am)

Route: Route is from ashram we go STRAIGHT and instead of taking dnd toll road we take ROAD GOING TOWARDS LEFT. We go straight and from redlight UNDER FLYOVER WE TAKE RIGHT. ROUTE FROM WHICH ONE CAN GO TO MAYUR
VIHAR ASWELL. AND GHAZIABAD TOO.

We'll be riding at a moderate speed of 16-21 kms/hr

Some of our friends are cycling to the numinous Lahual Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The trip is planned mid-august, and would stretch for 8 days in all. It's a comfortable and well-thought-out itinerary, all credits going to Col YVR Vijay (Ph: 9818637234).

A warm-up ride from Dehradun to Mussoorie, and back, is also planned over the coming 25-26th weekend.

SG1 ride in Lutyens' Delhi on Sunday, May 31, 2009

After our having our Sub Group rides going with enthusiasm in SG2, SG3 and SG4, this time on Sunday, 31st of May, we're cycling in SG1, Lutyens' Delhi - the original hangout of Delhi's Cyclists

Date: Sunday, May 31, 2009
Time: 07:00AM to 09:00AM
Starting from: Rajpath (opposite India Gate signal)
Route: from Rajpath, then climb Rashtrapati Bhawan, then towards Shanti Path, then alongside Nehru Park and back to India Gate
Bicycles for hire: Those who don't have a bike (or not able to bring theirs to the venue) can hire it from Patel Chowk (closer to the venue) or Pragati Maidan Metro Station bike rental facility for Rs 10. The bicycles would be available on first-cum-first-serve basis. Also, be there earlier in order to take a bicycle then cycle to our converging point.

Do carry some refreshments with you - water, glucose, biscuits would be ideal. The heat climbs up after 8:30AM, so one needs to be prepared, though your fellow cyclists would be there to help you.

Critical Mass, the global cyclists' movement also has a chapter in Delhi. We cyclists ride out on the evening of last Friday of every month, and explore the city in a leisurely manner. It is an evening when the cyclists take over the roads. Delhi Critical Mass is already 7 months old!

Meeting Venue: outside Lodhi Sports, located in Lodhi Market. It is a large and prominent point, so it'll be easy finding it out.
Route: The Critical Mass has no fixed route. Anybody can propose the next direction to take, and we do not hesitate from exploring lesser known roads.

Be there by 17:50, so that we set off punctually by 18:00.

Time: Starting at 7.00 AM
Starting Point: Khanpur Traffic Light (South End of the BRT Corridor)
Destination: Badhkal Lake (I Believe there is no 'lake' there anymore)
Arrival time at Badhkal: Approx 8:30 to 9 am (Depending on the slowest one of us all)
We will start back after a short rest and picture session.
The ride ends back at the starting point by around 10.30 AM

Bring your own snacks. Carry at least 1/2 to 1 liter of water. Wear
caps to ward off the sun tan/burn.

Assembly Point: Delhi University (Vishwavidyalaya) Metro Station
Reach the venue either on your bicycle or use Delhi Metro/DTC Bus and hire a cycle from Metro Station for Rs. 10 for four hours.

Route: The ride will start from Delhi University Metro Station at 07:05 AM and pass through Delhi University's north campus, along Kamla Nagar, MalkaGanj, Rajpur Road and Kamla Nehru RIDGE area before culminating again at University Metro station. We might also do some offroad/mountain biking inside the Delhi Ridge.
We will try to finish the day by 08:30-08:45AM as it would get too hot.

Route: Starting from Khanpur Traffic Light, on towards Surajkund (Via Karni Singh Shooting Range). Halt at Suraj Kund for
refreshments. Return back to starting point.

Distance: ca. 20km
Other Details: Average speed around 15 kmph (easy riding).
Carry some water and energy foods with you as the temperatures soar fast during the day.

We're cycling around Delhi University (North Campus) side again on Sunday, 05 April, 2009. Bicycles are available for rental at the Metro Station; so get your friends and family along for a lovely start to the day.

Assembly Point:
Delhi University(DU)/Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station
Time: 0715 AM
Distance covered: ca. 12km
Road conditions : Good roads, with uneven patchwork being minor irritation at places
Pre-requisites: No demanding stamina levels required, but one should have good road sense

Route Description
From DU Metro Station, we move along the Ring Road towards ISBT, from where we turn left and cycle across the flyover; upon reaching our first major crossing we take another left, and now are cycling on the Pusta Road; soon after we again take a left and descend down close to River Yamuna and into the last of the forests around here - the road stretching for about 3km, with the Yamuna flowing in parallel throughout - then coming out at Wazirpur Ring Road from whence we turn immediately towards Timarpur, and finally back to the DU Metro Station.
