SG1 ride in Lutyens' Delhi on Sunday, May 31, 2009

After our having our Sub Group rides going with enthusiasm in SG2, SG3 and SG4, this time on Sunday, 31st of May, we're cycling in SG1, Lutyens' Delhi - the original hangout of Delhi's Cyclists

Date: Sunday, May 31, 2009
Time: 07:00AM to 09:00AM
Starting from: Rajpath (opposite India Gate signal)
Route: from Rajpath, then climb Rashtrapati Bhawan, then towards Shanti Path, then alongside Nehru Park and back to India Gate
Bicycles for hire: Those who don't have a bike (or not able to bring theirs to the venue) can hire it from Patel Chowk (closer to the venue) or Pragati Maidan Metro Station bike rental facility for Rs 10. The bicycles would be available on first-cum-first-serve basis. Also, be there earlier in order to take a bicycle then cycle to our converging point.

Do carry some refreshments with you - water, glucose, biscuits would be ideal. The heat climbs up after 8:30AM, so one needs to be prepared, though your fellow cyclists would be there to help you.

Delhi Critical Mass Ride on May 29. http://delhicyclingclub.blogspot.com

Critical Mass, the global cyclists' movement also has a chapter in Delhi. We cyclists ride out on the evening of last Friday of every month, and explore the city in a leisurely manner. It is an evening when the cyclists take over the roads. Delhi Critical Mass is already 7 months old!

Time: 18:00 (6PM)
Meeting Venue: outside Lodhi Sports, located in Lodhi Market. It is a large and prominent point, so it'll be easy finding it out.
Route: The Critical Mass has no fixed route. Anybody can propose the next direction to take, and we do not hesitate from exploring lesser known roads.

Be there by 17:50, so that we set off punctually by 18:00.

Date: Sunday, the 17th May
Time: Starting at 7.00 AM
Starting Point: Khanpur Traffic Light (South End of the BRT Corridor)
Destination: Badhkal Lake (I Believe there is no 'lake' there anymore)
Arrival time at Badhkal: Approx 8:30 to 9 am (Depending on the slowest one of us all)
We will start back after a short rest and picture session.
The ride ends back at the starting point by around 10.30 AM

Bring your own snacks. Carry at least 1/2 to 1 liter of water. Wear
caps to ward off the sun tan/burn.

Cycling in Delhi Univ on Sunday, 3rd May. http://delhicyclingclub.blogspot.com

Day: 3rd May, 2009
Time: 07:00AM
Assembly Point: Delhi University (Vishwavidyalaya) Metro Station
Reach the venue either on your bicycle or use Delhi Metro/DTC Bus and hire a cycle from Metro Station for Rs. 10 for four hours.

Route: The ride will start from Delhi University Metro Station at 07:05 AM and pass through Delhi University's north campus, along Kamla Nagar, MalkaGanj, Rajpur Road and Kamla Nehru RIDGE area before culminating again at University Metro station. We might also do some offroad/mountain biking inside the Delhi Ridge.
We will try to finish the day by 08:30-08:45AM as it would get too hot.

The Delhi Cycling Club's Sub-Group 2 (SG2) cyclists have planned for a Sunday morning ride. All are welcome.

Day: Sunday, 26th April, 2009
Time: 8.00 AM (assemble 15 minutes earlier)
Assembly Point: Khanpur Traffic Light

Route: Starting from Khanpur Traffic Light, on towards Surajkund (Via Karni Singh Shooting Range). Halt at Suraj Kund for
refreshments. Return back to starting point.

Distance: ca. 20km
Other Details: Average speed around 15 kmph (easy riding).
Carry some water and energy foods with you as the temperatures soar fast during the day.

Cycling in North Delhi, Sunday, April 05. http://delhicyclingclub.blogspot.com

We're cycling around Delhi University (North Campus) side again on Sunday, 05 April, 2009. Bicycles are available for rental at the Metro Station; so get your friends and family along for a lovely start to the day.

Assembly Point:
Delhi University(DU)/Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station
Time: 0715 AM
Distance covered: ca. 12km
Road conditions : Good roads, with uneven patchwork being minor irritation at places
Pre-requisites: No demanding stamina levels required, but one should have good road sense

Route Description
From DU Metro Station, we move along the Ring Road towards ISBT, from where we turn left and cycle across the flyover; upon reaching our first major crossing we take another left, and now are cycling on the Pusta Road; soon after we again take a left and descend down close to River Yamuna and into the last of the forests around here - the road stretching for about 3km, with the Yamuna flowing in parallel throughout - then coming out at Wazirpur Ring Road from whence we turn immediately towards Timarpur, and finally back to the DU Metro Station.

DCC Blog Tied to SMS Service

Getting notified about the events and group rides at Delhi Cycling Club becomes even more easier!
Thanks to the launch of Google SMS Channels, its super-easy to create and tie up any google group or blog to a (free) SMS service, and equally easy for anybody to subscribe to that service. It is a free service, so do not hesitate to subscribe.

Step-by-Step

#2: Register yourself by providing your mobile number, which will send you a text message on your mobile to confirm that
